Possible Solutions

       With the many negative impacts that domestic violence has had on the National Football League, there are still signs that the NFL can make good progress on fixing these issues. An article written by Marylou Yam describes how the NFL is in a” perfect position” to take a “leadership role” in addressing the many issues of domestic violence (Yam). The article also describes that it is not just the job of the league to make changes towards domestic violence, but it is also the job of the fan (Yam). If the NFL can successfully reach out to the many fans of the league to take a stand on domestic violence, it can create many more opportunities to raise awareness on this issue. The greater number of people who are aware of the problem of domestic violence the less time it will take for changes and solutions to be made. The NFL is also in a good position to make significant impacts on its concussion problem. Recently, the NFL has tried to reduce the problem of head injuries by fining and suspending players who are called for illegal hits to the head in games. Even though this is a good step in limiting the amount of head injuries suffered, there are still other problems that need to be addressed that will help fix this issue.  The NFL needs to make changes so players are properly protected from hard hits to the head. The main change in equipment that needs to be fixed is with player helmets. Jarryd Werts explains in his article about concussions in the NFL that the NFL,”…must consider encouraging the players to wear the safest helmets possible” (Werts). NFL players can wear any brand of helmet they want as long as it meets national standards set by the committee for athletic equipment (Werts). If the National Football League allows players to wear any brand of helmet they want, hard hits to the head will continue to cause head injuries.
